Ripple Effects for Kids Finalist for Major Education Software Awards Ripple Effects' Ripple Effects for Kids is designed to reduce aggression, improve school climate, and increase academic performance, especially among low achieving students. It includes issues like talking back, fighting, drugs, alcohol, and bullying. It also trains in core social-emotional skills like empathy, impulse control, assertiveness, and managing feelings. The program is media-rich, with lots of sound, video, animation, and lively illustrations. Like all of Ripple Effects award-winning products, Ripple Effects for Kids is driven by Ripple Effects' Whole Spectrum Learning System, a groundbreaking approach that is responsive to the varying needs and abilities of a wide range of users and learning styles. It offers no fewer than eight modes of learning for every one of the many topics covered. The Codie Awards, sponsored by the Software & Information Industry Association, showcase the finest products and services in the software and information industry. In competing for the 2001 awards, Ripple Effects is proud to be up against some of the best names in educational publishing: Oxford University Press, Knowledge Adventure, EdMark, Scholastic and The Learning Company. This is the ninth national award for Ripple Effects family of social learning programs, which have also received the Technology & Learning Software Award of Excellence, the National Educational Media Network Silver Apple, the Cindy Award for Guidance, Values, and Career Information, the Creative Summit Award for Educational Software, and, in 1999, was a Codie Finalist for Best Secondary Education Software. Ripple Effects makes programs for middle and high school students, and educators. A 2000 study by researchers from Columbia and NYU showed the program for teens dramatically reduced aggressive behavior, increased prosocial behavior, and resulted in fewer remedial summer school referrals.
