Past Press Release Ripple Effects software nabs same award as Harry Potter in major international competition San Francisco, CA - March 13, 2002 - Ripple Effects, a San Francisco-based software publisher, went up against the biggest names in the business for the prestigious Bologna New Media Prize-and won, it was announced today. Started in 1997, the Bologna New Media Prize (BNMP) is a juried, international competition for children's new media products. Jurors chose Ripple Effects software from a field of nearly 1,000 to honor with a Citation of Excellence. That says a lot when you consider that the new Harry Potter CD, produced by Electronic Arts, was also chosen. The entrants list reads like a who's who of publishing--Sega of America, The Learning Company, Adobe Systems Incorporated, Microsoft, Riverdeep, Knowledge Adventure. And then there's Ripple Effects. "It says a lot that our tiny, ten-person company can compete with the hottest content in the world, delivered by publishers with millions to spend," says Sarah Berg, who produced the software. The winning software, True to Your Core, is a multimedia program to solve behavior problems and build character. It covers sixty topics, including bullying, fighting, tolerance, trust, and responsibility. It also trains in core social-emotional skills such as empathy, impulse control, assertiveness, decision-making, and managing feelings. Part of a family of software products, True to Your Core is driven by Ripple Effects' Whole Spectrum Learning System, a comprehensive approach that is responsive to the varying needs and abilities of a wide range of users and learning styles. It offers no fewer than eight modes of learning for every topic. The program is media-rich, with sound, video, animation, and lively illustrations. This is the 18th major award for Ripple Effects family of social learning programs. They are in hundreds of schools and after-school programs nationally, and were recently selected as model character education programs by the District of Columbia Public Schools, for their character education initiative.
