"Relate" violence prevention program wins 1999-2000 Technology & Learning Award of Excellence

December 15, 1999 - San Francisco, CA - Ripple Effects for Teens, a software program to prevent adolescent involvement in violent, antisocial, and unhealthy behaviors, has won a prestigious Award of Excellence from Technology & Learning Magazine.

The program has been shown through research to result in significant, positive gains in assertiveness, which research has established is a protective factor for prevention of drug and alcohol abuse, child sexual abuse, participation in violence, and teen pregnancy.

The award-winning program is in use in schools and community-based after school programs in fifteen states. "I can't say enough good things about this program," says Violence Prevention Specialist Jim Hernandez, who uses Relate to intervene with students having disciplinary problems.

The award-winner is the first in a series of behavior management resources from Ripple Effects, which will release similar tools for elementary students, and educators, in fall 2000.
