About Ripple Effects' Resist Web Site Resist (www.rippleeffects.com/resist/teens) is free web resource to help teens respond constructively to the terrorist attack and its aftermath. Teens can use it individually, or with parents or teachers, to deal with issues as problems arise. Educators can also use it as a systematic curriculum in group settings, for social studies, health education, or counseling. It's divided into three units, with a total of 18 lessons. All 18 have story-based scenarios, illustrated information, behavior training, interactive games, and practice opportunities that develop specific skills. Several have first person true stories as well. The first unit focuses on children's immediate need to manage feelings that have come up since the attack. Fear, anger, grief and even guilt are widespread among adolescents, in wake of the disaster. The program provides effective strategies to mediate these emotions, to reduce the chance that large numbers of kids will turn to alcohol or drugs to anesthetize what they feel. The second unit focuses on attitudes and social behavior related to promoting tolerance. It includes first person true stories: of an Asian boy who was a victim of a hate crime, an Egyptian girl, who responded to taunts with humor and ethnic pride, and a former hate crime offender who describes what motivated him--and how he changed. The third unit focuses on the meaning of patriotism, and the roles of loyalty and dissent in times of national distress. It is intended to promote participation by youth in national life, and encourage respect for constitutional rights, especially the right to dissent. For further information, please contact: Sarah
