To dissent is to disagree with what's happening. It can be constructive or destructive. It can make the country stronger, or weaken the national spirit.

America was started by people who dissented from an existing government. Protecting dissent was one of the chief aims of the founders, and almost all of the country's great leaps forward have started with dissent - whether about taxation, or slavery, or the rights of women or the disabled.
